11:00am - 12:30pm Keynote - Moneyball: The Art Of Winning An Unfair Game(Presented by NACPA) - Michael Lewis, Author & JournalistBob Lefsetz, industry analyst and author of the "Lefsetz Letter," had a lot to say about how the lessons of the Oscar-nominated "Moneyball" apply to the music business in his newsletter in recent months. In a unique keynote discussion Feb. 2, Lefsetz moderates a conversation with Michael Lewis, the author of the book that spawned the film, and Oakland A's manager Billy Beane, who applied seemingly obscure statistics to get the most bang for the buck in baseball's annual amateur draft. In doing so, Beane and his staff bucked baseball's conventional "wisdom" and lifted the lowly A's to competitiveness against the megabucks N.Y. Yankees and into the American League playoffs. Find out how it can pay to ignore "the way things are done" and use data in creative ways to compete against the big boys (and girls) even when dollars are tight. After the keynote, Beane and Lewis will be available for a "Moneyball" book signing at the Pollstar booth in the trade show area. 12:30pm - 1:00pm |
