Grammy Museum Miss. - A roadside sign showcases the nearly $20 million new Grammy Museum Mississippi in Cleveland, Miss., the only official Grammy museum outside of Los Angeles March 2.
The announcement itself was made in China last week by two members of the academy during a ceremony in Beijing attended by Chinese executives in cultural industries.
The location of the museum will be a resort town called Sanya on Hainan Island. It will contain 40,000 square feet of exhibit space, which includes a temporary exhibit gallery and a theater.
A statement released by the academy said that the Chinese museum "will share the focus of the Los Angeles museum in exploring and celebrating the history of the Grammy Awards, the premier recognition of recorded music accomplishments, through artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of the industry's premiere awards and the artists who have been honored by them."
The academy opened a Grammy Museum in Mississippi last year, but the Chinese version will be the first one outside the U.S. The partnership will be with Beijing SEEC Culture Media Co. Ltd., the Sanya Municipal People's Government and China Music Vision.
