The death was confirmed by the Colleton County Coroner’s office, according to NPR.

Upon hearing the news break, tributes poured in from artists like Lenny Kravitz, Joe Budden, M.I.A., and Kirk Franklin.

Craig Mack was signed to the Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records label, and the remix of “Flava In Ya Ear” featured Notorious B.I.G., Rampage, LL Cool J, and Busta Rhymes.

The MC largely stepped away from music for two decades after his 1997 album Operation: Get Down, but he dropped another project, The Mack World Sessions in 2017.

Eric Sermon wrote on Twitter after learning of Mack’s death “I’m devastated over the news of Craig Mack… We just finishing up his new album… smh… Rest In Power Craig.”
